Learning Together Through Blogs and Vlogs

I am honoured to share my life’s journey with you through these blogs and vlogs
and hope that every now and then you find something inspiring with these stories.
I’m learning as I go along too. Being empowered in life, grief and end of life
takes a lifelong commitment. With every turn there is something new—sometimes good,
sometimes not so good. Everyday someone will be having the greatest moment of their lives and someone else will be in the deepest grief. Life is unpredictable. Prepare for Anything.
So let’s keep caring for and supporting ourselves and each other.
It’s the only way.

A Few Highlights:

  • Kuba our dog; talking about, planning and preparing for his end of life, knowing it was coming. The roller coaster of emotion. Being able to really be there for him as he took his last breath. Honouring him. Healing our hearts.
  • The best thing to do for the grieving? “Just Show Up”—knowing you can’t fix it, there are no magic words, yes it’s uncomfortable and you don’t know what to say. Just show up, listen, be present. Lead with your heart. It knows the way.
  • If you want to show up for others, “Show Up for Yourself First.” Be a great example of self-care, be the best version of yourself and you will be able to give more and others won’t have to take care of you. If you haven’t been a great self-care giver, forgive yourself and start today.
  • What do you believe about life and death? What is your post—that internal something that you can hold onto in times of despair, that will be there for you no matter what (religion, spirituality, yoga, music, nature….)
  • When you are grieving, dig into your self-care toolbox and be a great bucket-filler (being kind to others) and do random acts of kindness. Makes someone smile. It’s free and it’s the best medicine out there; you will heal your heart and theirs.
  • Deb. K., whose son died in a plane crash years ago, shared her journey through grief and her mantra, “Who’s Happy if I’m Sad?” She is a grief counselor.
  • We attended the Canadian Transplant Games and met incredible athletes who are alive because of the incredible gift of organ donation. They are so grateful and loving life.
  • Lou’s Dash—a life lived to the fullest despite a heart condition. He followed his dream and founded a Camp where kids can learn life skills and have the greatest fun. When he died he left a ripple of changing lives and his legacy lives on.
